Jereed (Cirit) – Turkish equestrian javelin competition.
Jereed (cirit in Turkish) is a traditional Turkish equestrian sport, where two teams compete in open air. This game has been a part of Turkish culture since ancient times. The game requires players to chase and be chased, throwing javelins at the opposing team and then dodging javelins thrown at them. Teams have their own flag.
Jereet was used as a way to improve soldiers throwing and riding skills, as riders score points by hitting riders of the opposing team with the javelin. Riders also become skilled at performing acrobatic moves to avoid being hit, and have specially trained their horses to acquire an even greater advantage on the field.
Each team consists of 7 riders and 2 substitutes.
