100 days are left before the start of the World Nomad Games


Today, 26 May, 100 days are left before the start of the World Nomad Games.

In 2016, the Games will be held in Cholpon-Ata city, from 3 – 8 of September. For these purposes the Hippodrome is being reconstructed in order to correspond to all international standards with its widening up to 10 thousand seats. Events will be held at two locations – in Cholpon-Ata at the Hippodrome and in picturesque jailoo “Kyrchyn” in Semenovskoye gorge.

Grandiose opening ceremony will take place on September 3 at the Hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata city. Exciting 3D show, performances of national and foreign stars, theatrical show about the history and culture of the nomadic people – you may become a part of this and feel the enormity of the event only by visiting the World Nomad Games.

From September 4th to 7, in the afternoon will be held sports competitions, and in the evening - concerts and cultural events. Cultural and mass-celebrations will be organized on the jailoo “Kyrchyn” in Semenovskoe gorge, where the festival “Kochmondor Aalamy” will be organized.

As part of the festival there will be constructed the yurt-town that will comprise more than 200 yurts, also there will be shown the uniqueness of nomadic culture and the eliminatory ethnosport games (salbuurun, archery, equestrian competitions, etc..). At these Games 23 kinds of sports will be represented.

Games will end on September 8 at the Hippodrome, at the official closing ceremony of the World Nomad Games 2016.

Countrywide events are being organized according to the plan of the preparation and holding of WNG 2016. So, one of the most significant event was the setting of the countdown clock to the Games, in the central square “Ala-Too” in Bishkek.

The festival “Etno-madaniyat” organized with the Directorate on preparation and conducting of the Year of History and Culture in Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with the Secretariat of WNG 2016 will be held on June 2 – 3.

 The First International Dance Competition in Central Asia will be held on June 3 – 5, in Bishkek. The event will take place over 3 days with the participation of more than 2000 dancers from 10 countries in 52 dance styles and disciplines. Finalists will be invited to participate at WNG 2016.

From June 5 on the territory of Bishkek will start the project “Kyrgyz ayily” - a demonstrational event with elements of coverage of objects of national mode of life, traditional dwelling, arts and crafts, national games and national cuisine of the nomadic way of life of the Kyrgyz people. On this event residents and guests of the capital will be provided by master classes in setting-up and dismantling of yurts, “ustakantartuu” and others.

This project was initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic in 2012 and was supported by countries such as Turkey, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
The first Games were held in September 2014 on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Issyk-Kul oblast.
In the first Games participated athletes from 19 countries: Azerbaijan, Austria, Afghanistan, Belarus, Brazil, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Russia, USA, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, France, Sweden, South Korea.

The sports program of the Games included 10 kinds of ethnosport. Equestrian competitions, Kok Boru, Er enish, At chabysh, Kunan chabysh, Jorgo salysh. Traditional forms of wrestling: Kyrgyz Kurosh, Alysh, Kazakh Kurosh, Ordo, Toguz Korgool.
Within the Games some countries demonstrated their national games and forms of wrestling: Azerbaijan (Zorhana), Turkey (Cirit), South Korea (Tackkyon).
30 sets of medals were played out (total 166 medals) in 10 sports.

I International scientific and practical conference “The civilization of nomads: the epic heritage and national sports” was organized.
I World Nomad Games was broadcasted on TV channels to 40 countries around the world with coverage of the audience of 230 million people. The event was covered by 250 journalists from the leading mass media in the world.
