Korea (officially known as the Republic of Korea), is located in East Asia, on the Korean Peninsula. The unofficial name of the country is South Korea.
The Republic of Korea constitutes the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, which extends some 1100 kilometers from the Asian mainland. To the west is the Yellow Sea, and to the east is the Sea of Japan, and to the south is the East China Sea and the Korea Strait.
The landscape is predominantly mountainous, and plains occupy only 30% of Korea’s territory.
